If you use monetize Adsense on your website or Youtube account, some new changes went into effect today you should know about.
New Google Publisher Policies for Adsense
Effective today, September 30th, 2019, Google updated the criteria for the types of content that is allowed to be monetized. To continue to utilize the benefits of monetized ads on your content pages, make sure the code is not added to pages the show any of the following types of content:
Content that is considered illegal
If the content breaks the law or in the gray area, best to stay away from it unless you want to lose your ability to monetize.
Content that is illegal promotes illegal activity or infringes on the legal rights of others. This includes intellectual property abuse.
Dishonest content such as the selling of term papers, fake licenses, passports or content on how to hack, crack, or otherwise manipulate software, hardware, or algorithms illegally is grounds for demonetization.
Content that infringes on any copyright
First, there is usually a Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) notice issued. If you have a right to the content or it falls under “fair use” – you can file a counter-notification.
Content that sells or promotes the sale of counterfeit products. Counterfeit goods contain a trademark or logo that is identical to or substantially indistinguishable from the trademark of another. They mimic the brand features of the product in an attempt to pass themselves off as a genuine product of the brand owner.
Content that promotes the sale of products related to endangered or threatened species.
Examples: Sale of tigers, shark fins, elephant ivory, tiger skins, rhino horn, or dolphin oil.
Hate Content
Content that incites hatred against or promotes discrimination of or disparages an individual or group based on their race or ethnic origin, religion, disability, age, nationality, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, or other characteristics that are associated with systemic discrimination or marginalization.
Examples: Promoting hate groups or hate group paraphernalia, encouraging others to believe that a person or group is inhuman, inferior, or worthy of being hated.
Another example given by Google would be singling out someone for abuse or harassment, suggesting a tragic event did not happen or that victims or their families are actors or complicit in a cover-up of the event.
I think we can all agree the Internet is a much better place without the next category: Exploits others through extortion.
Examples: Predatory removals, revenge p*rn, blackmail.
There were no other updates from the already existing
Failure to comply with these policies may result in Google blocking ads from appearing against your content, or suspending or terminating your account.
